Tools for signature makers

Want to make a good sig image? Tired of taking them from google or photobucket? Or worse yet, making them with sprites?

Here are a few tools to get you started

Paint.NET - An upgraded and still simple to use version of Paint. to download go to

The GIMP. A paint application much like Photoshop. It's more complicated than Paint.NET but is capable of doing more.

So, this seems to be the place to ask:

I used Paint.NET to create Jehryn's sig and avatar, but I did something with the sig that I liked.



I am not sure how I got that effect around the text.  I know I used anti-aliasing, copied layer, increased size (?), and did some sort of effect.

I was wondering how I did it so that I can do it again.  Can anyone help?

if it were in photoshop, i would say you put an outer glow on it, but i havent used paint.net much yet, so i dont know

Paint.NET version 3.10 is out now, just thought I would make a point of mentioning that.

Even with the upgrades I can't figure out how to make that effect though. You screwed up so bad you succeeded.

I prefer the MS GIF animator.  It's nothing fancy, but I like the bare-bones style of it.
